Mary Louise Netek Hunt, age 83, passed away on August 10, 2023 in San Angelo, Texas. She was born April 9, 1940 in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Rudolph J. Netek Sr. and Vlasta Cykala Netek. Mary Louise grew up in Corpus Christi, graduating high school from Incarnate Word Academy in May of 1958, and then marrying the love of her life, Ronald Hunt Sr, in August of that year. They danced their way through life’s challenges for 53 years. She followed Ron across Texas in support of his athletic training career while raising their four children and working for school districts in Kingsville and Midland. She retired in 1990, just in time to become a “Nana” to the first of her ten grandchildren.
Mary Louise was a lover of her Catholic faith. She and Ron were charter members of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Midland, where she served in various church volunteer positions for 30+ years. She was a member of the Holy Angels Church Women’s Organization, Women’s ACTS, and a 75 year member of K.J.Z.T. She volunteered in the book section at Helping Hands in Midland for over 20 years, and when she moved to San Angelo, she became the Ice Cream Lady at Fannin and Reagan Elementaries on Fridays. Mary Louise loved Texas A&I University (Texas A&M-Kingsville) Javelina football and the many friends she made in the college community.
Mary Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Rudy Netek Jr. She is survived by her children: Becky and Troyce Wilcox of San Angelo; Cindy and John Shropshire of Lubbock; Ron Jr and Debbie Hunt of Beaumont; and Jeff and Megan Hunt of Coppell. Her grandchildren: Katlin Wilcox and Nick Vasquez, Clare and Adam Hallmark, Macy Wilcox, Zachary Shropshire, Bethany and Tyler Sikes, Alexis Hunt, Danielle Hunt, Ryan Hunt, Emily Hunt, and Sarah Hunt. Her great-granddaughter: Meredith Hallmark. Also, her sisters: Margaret and Erwin Sulak, and Carol and Steve Deel, all of San Antonio, and sister-in-law, Marilyn Netek of Houston.
A Rosary will be recited at 10:00am on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in San Angelo, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Angelo State University Catholic Center, Catholic Outreach Services of San Angelo, or the Pregnancy Help Center of Concho Valley.
