Josemaria Flores Chappa (Joe M. Chappa), 77, of Mereta, Texas, was called to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on the morning of July 16, 2023. He was the second child of three, born on March 31, 1946, in Mereta, Texas to Guadalupe and Angelita Chappa.
Joe married the love of his life, "his honey", Sylvia Chappa, on August 29, 1964, and they were blessed with 58 years of marriage. Joe and Sylvia were lifetime lovers of music and dancing. Joe grew up with the love of playing his guitar, singing in church and to his family. He enjoyed playing washers, football pots, the Dallas Cowboys, and serving his community. Joe was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mereta, a member of the Knights of Columbus and a Cursillista. Known as “Chema” to many, Joe was a hard worker and spent most of his life working in farming and later retired after 13 years from the City of San Angelo. He always provided for his family and lived to guide his family in faith and love. Joe absolutely loved spending time with his family and adored all his grandchildren. There was not a school function, special event, sports’ game, graduation, birthday, holiday, or accomplishment that Joe was not present for. He was always up front and center to support his loved ones and friends with all their accomplishments or milestones and always willing to lend a hand to anyone. Joe will forever be his family’s king of the song “Twist”.
A celebration of his life will include a Rosary at 6:00pm, on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo, Texas. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am, on Friday, July 21, 2023, at Holy Family Mission Catholic Church in Mereta, Texas, followed by a formal burial at the Mereta and Eola Cemetery.
