Ann Oliver Middleton, of San Angelo, one of five children born to Helen Sherrill and Wallace B. Oliver, came into this life on May 1, 1925, in Winters, Texas, and passed away at home on May 23, 2023. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 16, at the First Presbyterian Church in San Angelo with Rev. Joel Moore officiating. Following the Memorial Service there will be a “Celebration of Life” reception at the San Angelo Country Club River Room from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Ann graduated from Winters High School in 1942 and attended Trinity University in San Antonio. In 1946, she married William O. “Midd” Middleton of Ballinger, Texas. After raising their four children and spending forty-eight years together, he preceded her in passing in 1994.
Ann was a loving wife and mother and a faithful servant of our Lord. She was an integral member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ballinger for over forty years. She served as a Sunday School teacher, was an ordained Deacon and Elder for multiple years, and became a Trustee in 1987. As a volunteer, she served on the Ballinger ISD School Board, delivered Meals on Wheels, and was active in the business community. Ann was an astute businesswoman, creating a successful forty-year retail career as the owner of Middleton’s Dress Shop. Women from all around West Texas enjoyed shopping at Middleton’s. Ann loved going to the Dallas Market to pick out beautiful clothes for her faithful patrons and always felt blessed by the friendships she made throughout the years. In her spare time, Ann enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling with Midd in their motorhome and abroad, and playing golf, cards, or games with her friends.
Ann moved to San Angelo in 1996 and rekindled many old friendships and made new ones. She continued delivering meals to the elderly and volunteered in the Shannon Hospital gift shop. Ann became dear friends with the ladies in her “Friday Lunch Bunch” and enjoyed the camaraderie of her bridge groups. Ann was an excellent bridge player into her 90’s and her competitive spirit was fun to witness as she always played to win. In 2020, Ann moved into a private residence and was blessed beyond measure by her loving caregivers Ida Luna, Maria Saucedo, and Lucy Barley. They provided impeccable care as well as hours of fun and laughter, which added much happiness and joy these past few years. Ann was truly adored by all who knew her. Her sparkling blue eyes would light up when loved ones came to visit, and her laugh was contagious. Ann’s kind heart and generous spirit throughout her long, beautiful life was an example to all as she loved unconditionally and faithfully exemplified in the Lord’s Fruits of the Spirit.
Ann is survived by her four children who were the loves of her life: Susan and Lawrence “Bub” Williams of San Angelo; Bill Middleton of Dallas; Shirley and Roger Albert of San Angelo; and Stacy and Jeff Kovach of Coppell. She is also survived by her six grandchildren and their spouses, as well as ten great grandchildren: Bryant and Alison Williams of Dripping Springs and children Carter, Jack, and Grace; Lal and Becca Williams of Lubbock and children Brentley, Indie, and Ellis Ann; Ashley and Odus “Boogie” Wittenburg of Dripping Springs and children Will, Brooke, and Ty; Ryan and Liz Albert and daughter Peyton; and Riley Kovach and Olivia Kovach of Lubbock. Ann cherished her family, loved the Lord, and left a legacy in her footsteps. Although our family will miss her dearly, we find comfort in knowing “Sweet Mom” is in the presence of Jesus surrounded by her family and friends in Heaven.
The family extends its sincere appreciation to Dr. L. Yeatts, MD; Hospice of San Angelo/WTRC; and Darla Teague, RN, for their exceptional care. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be given in her honor to the First Presbyterian Church of Ballinger or San Angelo, Meals on Wheels, Hospice of San Angelo/WTRC, or to the charity of one’s choice.
