Thomas William Davis, Age 85 years old , from Christoval Texas, passed away on April 6, 2023.
Tommy Davis was born on March 16, 1938, to Elmer and Thelma Davis in Ft. Worth Texas. He graduated from Granbury High School in 1956. Where he was a 2-time State Champion in the 440 yard dash and Mile Relay where he was the anchor leg, and where “bring it on home” was started. In 1955, he held the fastest time in the nation in the 440 yard dash for the AAU Jr Olympics Senior Division from 1956-1964. Tommy Davis went on to attend Texas Tech University on a full scholarship where he was a 4 year letterman in Track & Field. Where to this day he still holds the record for the 220 yard straight away dash. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education.
He began his coaching career in Smyer, Texas, and over the next 44 years of coaching all across the State of Texas he was a mentor, leader, and even a father figure to countless extraordinary athletes at every level.
In 1958, Tommy met Nancy Kay Lewis , in Glen Rose, Texas. They were married for 65 Years. They have 6 children, 13 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
Tommy was preceded in death by his Father, Mother, and his 2 brothers EH”Dave”, and Frank Davis. He is survived by his wife Nancy Kay Davis of Christoval, Texas, Son Thomas Jr and wife Kelli of College Station, Texas and their children Emily and Ross Gunnels, Will and Alexandra Davis, and Henry Davis. Son Chad and wife Delight Davis of Levelland, Texas and their children Brad and Annie Davis, and Shelby and Colton Weimers. Daughter Allison and husband Mark Gosney of Kerrville, Texas. Daughter J.K. and Husband Louis James of Christoval, Texas and their children Jack and wife Lark Davis, H.L. James and fiancé Maggie Phillips, and Luke and wife Hannah James. Son Seth and DeeDee Davis of Andrews, Texas and their Children Blaine Davis and Ben Davis. Son Drew Davis of Christoval and his children Jade Davis, Dashal Davis, and Daxton Davis. Brother Jack and his wife Joyce Davis of San Antonio,Texas and their children. Sister Diana and her husband Grey Baker of Canyon Lake, Texas and their children. Sister-in Laws: Jane Lewis of Muskogee, Oklahoma, Carmen Lewis of Glen Rose, Texas, Jenny Barham of Mineral Wells, Texas, Judy Lewis of Decatur, Texas and Dot Lewis of Batesville, and all of his beloved nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.
He was humble, passionate, kind, and competitive, but most of all. He was “OUR HERO”!
