Our beloved Father passed away at the age of 88 on February 22, 2023 at 5:49pm in his home in San Angelo, Texas, after a short illness. Robert was born in the Baptist Hospital in Alexandria, Louisiana on June 4, 1934 to Maggie Jeanette Reynolds and Dewey Abel LaCombe.
He had two siblings: Ruby Lee LaCombe Sanchez, and Bonnie Farrell LaCombe. He had a zest for life, love, Harley Davidson motorcycles, fishing, guns, and taking care of his grandson. He graduated from Tioga High School in Louisiana, then went on to work for oil exploration. In his early thirties he mastered the skill of being a butcher and became the market manager in Harry’s Food Store in San Angelo, Texas. He then went into sales for Wilson and Affiliated Foods. In the late 1970’s he opened his own business San Angelo Sand Blasting and Painting. He moved to Llano, Texas in 1990’s and became the market manager at Country Boy’s Food Store until 1996, then he moved back to San Angelo, Texas at age 62 to take care of his grandson, who was his pride and joy, where he obtained the name “PawDaddy” which he absolutely loved. He worked until he retired at the age of 88. He always said, “I’m going to work until I die.”
Robert married Wilma Fay Nixon on September 15, 1955, and had two daughters. They were married 39 years. She preceded him in death in 2006.
He is survived by his children Rhonda Hurley, Ken Hurley, Sheila Fox and Douglas Fox; grandchildren, Jennifer Hurley and Michael Fox; nephew, Del Sanchez and Farrell LaCombe; nieces, Braunice Rachal, Debbie LaCombe, Gayle Lemons, Tracy Ambrose, Troyanne Horton; sister-in-law, Linda Walters; brother-in-law, Charles Nixon. Preceding him in death are his parents Dewey Abel LaCombe in 1949, Maggie Jeanette Reynolds in 2006; siblings, Ruby Lee LaCombe Sanchez in 1998, Bonnie Farrell LaCombe in 1970.
We want to thank Regency House, Shannon Medical Center – 4 South staff, and HOSA for all helping take such good care of our Father. Fly high Daddy, we will never forget you. We will see you on the other side.
