Cheri Ann Jenkins Holt passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2023 in her home in San Angelo, Texas after a hard fought battle with cancer.
She is survived by her children, James Holt and wife Tina, David Holt and wife Stephnie; her grandchildren: Austin Holt, Brenden Holt; Mackenzie Holt, Hailey Holt; Erica Booth, Tabitha Mills, and Samantha Mason, her siblings: James Bass Jr. and wife Martha, Leslie Bass Gossett and husband Greg, John Bass and wife Jeannie, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her mother Irene and stepfather Jim Bass, and her father Glenn Jenkins.
Cheri was born December 2, 1946 in Newport News, Virginia to Glenn and Irene Jenkins where shortly after her birth the family made their move to San Angelo, Texas. Here, her loving mother, Irene Jenkins created and provided a warm and welcoming home for Cheri and all of her neighborhood Santa Rita Elementary and Lee Junior High friends. It was during this time that many cherished memories and life-long friendships were created. These friendships would develop into lasting treasures that would have an amazing impact on Cheri.
In the summer of 1962, Cheri's family would graciously grow when her mother Irene married Jim Bass and created the original "Bass Bunch". Cheri hit the jackpot and no longer was an only child with the addition of Jim, Jr, Leslie, and John. She and Leslie fast became "sisters" being in the same grade and trying their best to outfox their parents. Their scheming was only successful a couple of times before Cheri and Leslie realized that parents compare notes! Then off to Central High School Cheri would go creating more friendships and memories for all through clubs and organizations with the Central Class of 1965. During this time, she would be a part of the homecoming court and team up with her sister Leslie and friends in many adventures.
After graduation, Cheri attended San Angelo College (Angelo State University) and shortly after started her job of "mother" with the birth of Jamie. She then moved to Dallas and managed apartment properties where she met and married a fellow classmate, Greg Holt. The three would then become four with the birth of David while living in Austin. Together they would venture back to San Angelo building a loving home, traveling and enjoying many adventures and vacations together with the boys, Jamie and David. These adventures had Cheri playing an active role in the Santa Rita PTA, entertaining and hosting family events, and developing a passion for cooking masterful gourmet meals.
Her next chapter would lead her down the road of real estate where she became an agent and learned the business during her 25-year career. Throughout this time, Cheri developed a keen eye for elegant and classic fashion that inspired her magnificent taste and pizzazz.
The family is most grateful to the friends and companions who created a loving atmosphere for Cheri in her final weeks. A special thank you to Dr. Cheruku and the staff at the oncology department at Shannon Hospital, Dr. S. Burkes, all the wonderful staff from Comfort Keepers, and Hospice of San Angelo.
