Virgie “Mimi” Arlene Bailey Doss, 80 years of age of Grape Creek, Texas, passed away peacefully after a hard fight, surrounded by loved ones on February 9th, 2023.
Virgie was born June 19th, 1942, in Scio, New York to the late Clarence and Letha Bailey. She was one of the younger siblings of ten children. Virgie went to a few different schools in New York as well as Texas. She later surprised her family by getting her GED which was one of her profound achievements.
Virgie ran off to Mexico to marry the love of her life, Fountain (F.K.) “Poppy/Papa Kay” Kay Doss on December 12th, 1959. Together they had two children, Tammy Kay and Richard Wayne.
Virgie was a strong believer in Christ and her faith was important to her. Her and F.K. were members of the First Church of the Nazarene since 1984.
Virgie worked at Fred Harris BBQ in San Angelo, Texas. Her and F.K. were partial owners of Chimney Rock Steak House in Grape Creek. Virgie managed The Corner Post in Water Valley, Texas for many years. She then retired after working for a few years as a receptionist at Royal Estates. She was a social butterfly and kept up with many of the friends made during her working years. She had many titles, but her favorite titles were “Mom” and “Mimi”.
Life for Virgie got a little sweeter when she received the title, “Mimi.” Her grandkids were the highlight of her life and she rarely missed anything of their events. She enjoyed watching anything they were involved in and was so proud of all their accomplishments. Anyone she came in contact with, stranger or not, were going to hear a story or two of her grandkids. She might have added in a few “extra” details to make them look even better. Life got even more GREAT when she became a great-grandmother. She could not help herself when it came to playing little pranks on all the grands and greats. They all knew to always check underneath the tail of the rocking horse and watch out for “witching hour.”
Virgie was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Letha Bailey, husband Fountain Kay Doss, siblings Donna Field, Evelyn Geffers, Gertrude Rogers and Phillip Bailey.
