Mrs. Plott was born August 2, 1944 in San Angelo to Edith and JB Pettit, Jr., who were living in Stiles. The Pettit family soon moved to Rankin and Marie started first grade and attended Rankin Schools until she graduated in 1962. After graduation, Marie attended The College of Business in San Angelo and worked at the Shannon Medical Surgical Clinic for several years. She eventually found her dream job as Apartment Manager for Arroyo Square Apartments. Marie loved people and she loved San Angelo. She was active in Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Marie also worked with the Miss Texas organization and served as chaperone for the contestants. Her favorite activity was helping with the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo where she served as manager of The Fine Arts Department for 28 years. Marie was a lifelong "Loud and Proud" supporter of the Rankin Red Devils and enjoyed traveling and cheering on her nephews. Aunt Ree also followed the nieces and nephews to many rodeos in West Texas and New Mexico. She loved to laugh and never met a stranger. In 2017, faced with some health problems and wanting to be closer to her sister, Nina Gayle, Marie moved to Reagan County Care Center in Big Lake. She soon became an advocate for the residents and served on The Resident's Council. She loved sitting on the front porch and visiting with the residents and families.
Marie is preceded in death by her father, JB Pettit; her mother, Edith Pettit; one brother, Jim Pettit; and a special longtime friend, Marvin Green.
