Walter Leo Hoes, 91, of San Angelo passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2022.
Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, November 9, 2022 in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with Pastor Emmett Corker, pastor at Northridge Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
Walter was born on November 13, 1930 in Rowena to Eldor and Annie B. Lohse Hoes. He graduated from San Angelo High School in 1948 where he was the center on the football team. Walter was drafted into the U. S. Army and was stationed in Japan and South Korea during the Korean War. He was discharged as a Staff Sergeant. After his discharge, Walter went to work for the Texas Department of Transportation on the survey crew. He worked his way up the ladder to be an engineering technician IV. Walter retired after 41 years of service in 1993. He was an avid collector of Antiques and enjoyed browsing garage sales and antique shops. Walter could fix anything with a motor, even the newer stuff. He was a loving father and enjoyed spending time with his family. Walter was the greatest man his family knew.
He is survived by his three sons, Tommy L. Hoes and wife Leigh of Garland, Don Hoes of San Angelo, and Jay A. Hoes and wife Ronda of Lubbock; seven grandchildren, Brandi Johnson and husband Jeremy of Coupland, Jesse Hoes of San Angelo, Jill Foltz and husband Chris of Garland, Nancy Chatham and husband Dan of Bedford, Ohio, Marta Hoes of Norwalk, Connecticut, and Tristan Hoes and Cailyn Hoes both of Lubbock; and seven great-grandchildren, Alanah, Lyndsey, Jeremy, Jr. Jaden, Cameron, Justice, and Kinzie.
