Alfrieda Debus Braden, 98, passed away peacefully on the morning of October 20, 2022. She was born on January 4, 1924 to John and Amelia Schwertner Debus at their home in Runnels County, TX. Alfrieda and her family moved to Wall in her early childhood where she grew up working on the family farm. She was the oldest of four daughters and her dad often referred to her as his “little boy”. Alfrieda graduated from San Angelo College presently known as Angelo State University. After college, Alfrieda met the love of her life, Elmer Charles Braden, Sr. Alfrieda and Elmer were married on April 2, 1948 and moved to the family farm on Debus Rd in Wall where they raised their family. Whether it was your birthday, anniversary, or sometimes “just because”, you could always count on Alfrieda to make you her famous Angel Food Cake that most would say are the best in West Texas.
