“To everything there is a season...a time to be born and a time to die...” Ecclesiastes 3:1
What a wonderful day, December 14, 1937, in Temple, TX; Grant and Helena Malone Reed were blessed with their sixth son, Grant Reed, Jr. He was referred to as “Junior” by his family and friends.
At the age of 5, the family relocated to San Angelo, TX, where he attended San Angelo public schools, Blackshear High being the last one.
Junior was married to Willie Wilson; to this union one son and four daughters were born.
Later, he relocated to Cleveland, OH; from there to Denver, CO; years later, he returned home and married Mary Douglas. They had one son, James.
He attended St. Paul Baptist Church and was later baptized at Christian Fellowship Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Hoover Lemons. He served faithfully on the Usher Board, Food Committee and any place he was needed.
Being that Junior and Charles were the youngest two brothers, there were very close; as such, they ran a business, “Reed Brothers Detail” for four decades.
Gloria was his youngest sister; however, he confided in her and sometimes jokingly called her his “Mother.”
Junior gave up his determination to continue his fight on Charles' birthday, September 2nd at 9:11 a.m. His last days were all peaceful and calm.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Joseph, Emmett and LeRoy; two sisters, Ruby and Geraldine; a daughter, Jacqueline Reed and two sons Jimmie Reed and James Reed.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Pearl James, Terrie Smart, Barbara Anthony, Shena Reed and Kyosha Reed; sons, David Wharton, Julius Reed and Jamil Lucas; thirty-one grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; his brothers, Jimmie (Onetha) Reed and Charles (LaRue) Reed; his sisters, Alice Johns and Gloria R. DeWitt; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Harper Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Grace Church in San Angelo with Pastor Jeremy Walker officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
