Sharron Lynette Freitag of San Angelo, Texas passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 16th, 2022, at 12:45pm surrounded by her family. Sharron was born in Lubbock, Texas on December 5th, 1943, to James Osburn Ayers and Barbara Rebecca (Boggs) Ayers. She grew up in Dimmitt, Texas but frequently visited her grandparents RC and Ora Boggs in Tankersley, Texas where she met Carl “Pinkie” Freitag. They were married in 1961 and lived in Mertzon, Texas their entire marriage. They had 3 children Lynn Freitag, Janice Douglas, and Lisa Freitag.
Although Sharron quit school before graduating, she later attended evening classes in Mertzon to get her GED. She worked several years as Cafeteria Manager in the Mertzon school. Her next adventure was working at St. John’s Hospital as a Certified Nurse’s Aide. This inspired her to go to nursing school. She then attended Howard College to get her LVN license and worked several years as an LVN. She went on to go to ASU for her RN license, graduating in 1996 at the age of 52. She worked as an RN at St. John’s, Shannon Hospital, Rivercrest Hospital and Bronte Nursing and Rehab until her retirement in 2005. She took pride in being a nurse and loved having the opportunity to touch the lives of the people she cared for.
She was a very involved Mother and Grandmother. She never missed a ball game of one of her kids and her house was always full of kids. She got her nickname from her first grandchild Mandy and from then on, all her kids, friends, and every grandchild after that called her Mambo. She loved her family dearly and cherished time with them.
She was preceded in death by her husband Pinkie, her son Lynn, her grandson Will, her great-grandson Christian, and great-granddaughter Gabriella, her parents, and her sister Toni Fritzler.
She is survived by her daughter Janice and husband Don Douglas of Mertzon and daughter Lisa Freitag of San Angelo. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Mandy Hussain (husband Sam), Quinton Freitag, Kaitlyn Freitag, Annie Freitag, Jennifer Clark (husband Jesse), Taylor Douglas (wife Erin), Cody Bridges (wife Leah), Jamie Jones, Staci Savala, and 22 Great grandchildren.
A thank you to all the many caregivers in her life this past year, the nurses at Shannon Hospital, Shannon SNF, Encompass Rehab, Dr. Jastrow and Hannah for their care, Hospice of San Angelo, and the staff at San Angelo Home Health who took special care of Mambo. Also, a special thanks to all her family at Rio Concho Terrace. Whether staff or neighbor, she called you all her family and she missed you dearly the last 3 months she had been gone.
There will be a Celebration of Life held in Mertzon at the Methodist Church Family Life Center on Saturday August 20th, 2022, at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your special charity or one of hers: West Texas Boys Ranch, Hospice of San Angelo or Rio Concho Terrace Circle of Friends.
