Mrs. Perez was born on December 31, 1947 in Chumbitaro, Michoacan, Mexico to Salomon and Eufrosina Ocampo Albarran. From an early age, there was no stopping Columba once she made up her mind to do something. This fierceness is what brought her from a small town in Mexico, at the early age of seventeen, to the steps of Angelo State University. Because of her, our family's seed was planted in San Angelo.
Columba was known to many as a devote Christian who liked to quote biblical scripture, but there is also a side of her that many may not know. She loves sports; the Braves were her "go to" team, up until the Texas Rangers started to come up. We would play Tennis, and she would tell us she was Chris Evert Lloyd. She also loves movies. One of Columba's favorite quote was from the movie A League of Their Own, "There's no crying in baseball". There was no man like her John Wayne.
Alone, she worked hard to provide support to her struggling parents and younger sisters. Who would have thought a poor girl, from Mexico, would ever own a 20-acre ranch? She will immediately tell you, she did. If she dreamed it, she made it happen. Her drive and devotion are the legacy she leaves in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all who know and love her.
Columba is survived by her four children, Daniel Duron and spouse Jennifer Martinez of San Angelo, Sarah Resendez and spouse Jesus of San Antonio, Esteban Duron of San Angelo, and Salomon Isacc Duron "Moncho" and spouse Bridget of Ozona; two sisters, Maria "Alili" Albarran and Elvia Borja and spouse Servando; five grandchildren, Anthony Duron Sanchez and spouse Victoria, Alejandro Lara, Jacob Lara, Salomon Isacc Duron, Jr., and Rachel Isabella Duron; and two great-grandchildren, Lylah Marie Sanchez and Caleb Anthony Sanchez.
