Warren Ray “Pop” Townley, 79, entered Heaven on May 27, 2022 in San Angelo, Texas.
Warren was born on February 12, 1943 to Alvis and Fay Townley in Paducah, Texas. He grew up on his family’s farm outside of Paducah where he learned the definition of hard work. He graduated from Paducah High School in 1961 and went on to graduate from Hardin Simmons University several years later.
On June 2, 1963, Warren married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Nona Chenault in Paducah. The newlyweds lived in Abilene for several years while he finished college and went on to take his first coaching job at Putnam, Texas. Warren was a member of the Hardin Simmons rodeo team and passed his love for rodeo on to his grandsons
In 1967 Warren and Nona welcomed their only child, Missy, into the world and soon after moved to Wall, Texas where Warren coached football and track until 1983. He loved kids and sports and had a huge impact on many lives throughout his coaching and teaching career. After retiring from Wall, he started a new career in insurance with Farm Bureau in San Angelo and later went back to coaching for a few years at Lincoln Junior High.
In 2001 Warren and Nona moved to Canyon, Texas to be near Missy and her family. Warren “Pop” was devoted to his grandchildren and never missed a game, rodeo or banquet if his grandkids were involved. He was not only a fan of his own grandchildren, he also cheered on their friends. If a young person needed encouragement, he was there to give it.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Rita June Seigler and Cecil Townley.
