George Allen Halfmann went to be with his Heavenly Father and the love of his life on May 7th, 2022. He was surrounded by his family as he entered the gates of heaven.
George was born on January 11, 1932 to Mack Halfmann & Emma Gerngross Halfmann in Olfen, Tx. His family moved to Wall, Tx in 1939 to farm. He helped his dad farm and tend the animals for many years before he went into the Army. As George was heading out to training for the Army, his brother Cecil was returning from being overseas and they were not able to cross paths before departing. George served his country for several years and returned home to be greeted by his family! George played in a band with his friends for many years and was known to bring the guitar out on Sunday afternoons at his home to play his favorite tunes for his kids!
On November 7, 1956, George married the love of his life & best friend, Doris Pfeiffer of Veribest, Tx. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church. They moved to St. Lawrence, Tx. where their first child was born and then moved back to Veribest to continue farming. They brought home 4 more children while living in a two-bedroom home and then moved to Wall, Tx in 1976 where they welcomed their 6th child! Their family was complete!
George was a humble man who took care of others in need. He was the greatest example of a husband, father, brother, popo, Christian and friend. Doris and George had a love and generous heart for many priests. They sponsored Fr. Paul Inje and Fr. Jesu Rajan for the past 40 years. George was very proud of his Catholic faith and set aside time each day to pray the Rosary and Divine Mercy for all of his family and friends. His kids remember seeing George and Doris kneeling beside their bed saying their prayers every night!
Dad enjoyed the fine things in life- sitting on the back porch telling stories, going to church, and spending time with his family. Dad was known for giving his kids nicknames, which carried on to their kids as well! Going to Dad/Popo’s house was a treat because you always had soady-pop, beer, ice cream and a couple quarters to bring home with you. You could find Dad down at the ranch fixing fence, feeding the cows, or on the tractor. He was the hardest worker and was known to have the toughest hands. He loved to go fishing at the tank or on the lake with his fishing buddies and bringing the fish home for a fish fry! Dad always loved to be around kids, whether they were his grandchildren/great grandchildren or kids he met at church. They all brought him so much joy, and he was known to slip a golden dollar or two to each kid.
George was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years Doris Faye Halfmann, his parents Mack & Emma Halfmann, his sister Veronica Clark, & his brother in-laws W.C. Hering & Edd Plagens.
