Edward Powell Brininstool, 88, passed away on April 6, 2022. He was born to Brooks Powell Brininstool and Rose Scheuer, on January 23, 1934, in Carlsbad, New Mexico. He went to school in Jal, New Mexico, where he lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track. He went to New Mexico A.& M, (now New Mexico State), in Las Cruces, NM on a football scholarship, and graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree. He went to work at Magnolia oil co (now Mobil/Exxon) until the Air Force called him. He married Doris Arlelle Guess, on Dec 28, 1957 (and was married for 64 years until his death).
He started his military career as a maintenance officer at Biggs AFB, El Paso. He went to pilot training at Laredo AFB, then to Vandenberg AFB, California, where he was an engineer on the missile sites,
developing, testing and designing and testing Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBM) before NASA and the space flights to the moon. (Atlas D and Titan 2 missiles). He was then sent to the Pentagon during the Viet Nam war. Ed was then sent to Norfolk, VA, for NATO Armed Forces Staff College, followed by the Inspector Generals Office for inspecting Research and Development bases all over the world.
He was then sent to LAAFS (Los Angeles Air Force Station) where he was program manager for AF satellite programs. He retired from the Air Force as a Lt Colonel, on August 1, 1979.
He and Arlelle moved to San Angelo and built their dream home next to Spring Creek, in the Dove Creek Subdivision, where he was on the volunteer fire department, the architectural control committee, and the Dove Creek Water Board. His great loves were digging mesquites, hunting with friends, and of course, his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Joseph William Brininstool and Carl David Brininstool. He is survived by his wife, Arlelle, son Michael (Janna), daughters Sharon (John Cleveland) and Robbin Brininstool; grandchildren, Andrew Brininstool, Christopher Brininstool, Erin Chapman (Dan) and Zachary Brininstool; 5 great grand children; sisters Rosemary Hindes, and Bernadette Brininstool, brother Brooks Brininstool, and sister in law, JoAnn Brininstool, as well as many cousins and friends.
The family wishes to thank Dr Chang, Dr Wurster, Dr Cheruku, Dr Studt, and their wonderful staffs.
A celebration of Ed's life will be at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Tuesday, April 12, 2022. Rosary will be at 9:45, Mass at 10:15, Military honors, and visiting in the hall with a light lunch and sharing memories.
