Bob was born in Goldthwaite, Texas on April 5, 1934, to R.V. and Mary Leverett. Bob graduated from Brownwood High School in 1952 and was a star athlete, lettering in Football, Basketball, and Track. He was a captain for all three sports teams in his senior year. He attended Howard Payne University on a track scholarship before serving a 3-year tour in Germany, with the National Guard. Bob started his family and moved to San Angelo in 1959 and remained in the area the rest of his life.
Bob owned Cactus Tire Warehouse for the last thirty-five years, servicing 40 dealers across West and Central Texas at the height of its operations in the late 80’s, 90’s, and 2000’s. Prior to Cactus Tire, he was Sales Manager at the Western Mattress Company, overseeing branches in West Texas and New Mexico.
Bob’s love for horses and dogs came full circle after he turned the age of 50. At the 52, he began competing in Senior Steer Roping competitions across Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico, reaching the Senior National Championships in Guthrie, OK, in 1990 through 1996. At age 60, he learned to breed, raise, and train Border Collies and won Sheep Dog trials and competitions all over the state. He worked with area ranches, during the Spring, to assist in gathering up of different breeds for the shearing session. Bob was asked yearly to put on Sheep Dog demonstrations for the kids during Old Fort Concho Days.
