Jesse A Buchanan went to his final resting place February 27,2022 surrounded by his family at the young age of 82. He was born September 17,1939 to Raymond Buchanan and Oneada Robertson Buchanan in Midland Texas. Waiting for him to come into the world also was his sister Doris Buchanan. From stories told she spoiled him rotten.
Jesse went to school in Odessa Texas. While trying to figure out his journey in life he found his way to Childress Texas, where in 1960 he went to work on the Buckle L Ranch for Mr. Lundon. Oh, the stories we herd of his cowboy days. He was a true cowboy at heart. The way his eyes light up when telling his cowboy stories told it all. This was his passion until he was drafted into the Army in 1963. He was active duty until 1965 in which he transferred to the Army Reserves until 1969, when he was honorably discharged. He was a Sharpshooter (rifle M-1), Expert (rifle M-14) and received the Good Conduct Medal. During part of his stay in the Army he was stationed in Okinawa. While in the Reserves he met and married the love of his life Geneva Mayo. They married March 11,1967 in Childress, Texas, and were married until her passing in 2014. They were unable to have children of their own, but at the time of marriage Geneva had a 6, year old daughter which he legally adopted and raised as his own. He was an amazing father and provider.
Jesse then moved his family to Albuquerque New Mexico where they resided until 1971 when they moved to Fort Worth Texas. While in Fort Worth he owned his own business Bucks Tops, where he made and installed Formica countertops. In 1981 he had the opportunity to further his business and moved to Midland Texas. When the business slowed down, he made the decision to go to work for Ranger/Woodruff Drywall where he worked for many, many years. He then went into the oilfield in 2004 where he was a road truck driver for TMBR Sharp/Patterson Drilling where he stayed until his retirement in 2008. In 2014 after the passing of his wife he moved with his daughter and son-in law to San Angelo Texas, until his passing. After retirement he enjoyed and loved spending time with family, going fishing, and watching his westerns. John Wayne was his man! Waiting at the pearly gates for his arrival was his beloved wife of 52 years Geneva Mayo Buchanan, his parents Raymond Buchanan, Oneada Buchanan Mitchell, stepdad Rad Mitchell, his Sister Doris Buchanan Swinney, and brother-in-law Bill Swinney. There were many more, so we know there was one heck of a reunion.
Left to cherish his memories are his daughter Jeanie Buchanan Branch and husband Donald, 3 grandsons, Chris Buchanan and wife Jessica, Michael Branch, and Derrick Smith. 3 great granddaughters, Skylar Buchanan, Ashton Ledford, and Emmah Buchanan, sister-in law Donna Burns and husband Steve. Many Nieces, Nephews, Uncles, Aunts, and cousins. So thankful for the all the wonderful memories which we will always remember and cherish. Honoring a loved one's wishes is really hard, but the family agreed to do so. Jesse wanted to be cremated with no services. He wanted to be taken to his favorite fishing hole which is what we are doing. When the weather warms up, we will take him fishing one last time. Please hug your loved ones tight.
