On December 31, 2021, Donna Ann Vaneff Swartz passed away after an admirable 97 years of living.
Donna was born October 8, 1924 in Mansfield, Ohio to Pascal and Kina Vaneff. Always an independent, strong woman, Donna graduated high school and worked at Tappan where she honed her skills in interior design. She left Tappan to pursue her passion in art, graduating in 1952 from Ohio State University. It was at OSU, she met Guy Swartz, her future husband. Donna and Guy wed in Roswell, New Mexico in 1952.
In 1966 they moved to San Angelo. Donna taught art classes to neighborhood kids during summers and later at John Glenn Junior High. She obtained her Master's in Fine Art at Angelo State University where she taught in the continuing education program. For many years she served as President of Texas Fine Arts Association, garnering an award for her service to the arts from then Governor of Texas, Mark White. She was active in Historic San Angelo and Adult Literacy Council of the Concho Valley. Donna remained a lifelong proud Buckeye fan.
She is preceded in death by husband Guy, brother John, and her parents. She is survived by her three sisters, Antina Kerst of Mansfield,Ohio, Elaine Sherman of Georgetown, Texas and Anka Hall of Wooster, Ohio and their families and her four children and their families; Dr. Doug Swartz of Jacksonville, Florida, Greg Swartz of Casper, Wyoming, Bruce Swartz of San Angelo, Texas and Carolyn Stettler of Greenwood Village, Colorado. She was the proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
We would like to thank her team of caregivers for all their loving care and thank Kindred Hospice for their care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Adult Literacy Council of the Concho Valley.
A family memorial service will be held at a later date.
