Sweet, funny, smart, beautiful Judy Lynn Higginbotham Matthews went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021. She was full of life, spunk, attitude, style and it was always so much fun just to be in the same room together.
Judy was born Dec. 20, 1943 in San Angelo and brought home to a tiny house in Concho county near Paint Rock, where she spent her formative years doing “kid work” on the farm and ranch of her parents and grandparents. While she only lived in the ”tiny home” a few months, the foundation still stands.
But Judy was always ready to meet new friends, so her freshman year in high school she moved in with her grandmother and started walking across the street to Ballinger High School. On her first day of school, she met 7 lifelong friends whom she visited with and traveled with to the end. She rarely missed a BHS school reunion, even those held in Fredericksburg!
She married Jim Matthews in 1984 and moved to San Antonio where she became a successful real estate agent and made still more lifelong friends. She also renewed her passion for Duplicate Bridge, which she continued when she and Jim retired in San Angelo. She became a Master Bridge player, and she never let her grandchildren forget it as she was teaching them to play Bridge or even Spades.
Judy and Jim loved traveling and went on numerous cruises and trips to the Mediterranean, China, Russia, Egypt, Australia, New Zealand and Africa. She also loved her home in Ruidoso, NM and the “Mountain Girls” she met, and laughed with there.
But more than anything Judy loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and precious great granddaughter.
Judy was preceded in death by husband Jim Matthews and parents Oveta and Floyd Higginbotham. She is survived by daughters Missy Moylan (Jim), Patty Geer (Rodney), grandchildren Jarred Moylan (Grace), Josh Moylan, (fiancée Addyson Angers) Mattie Moylan, Landon White, Colby White, and great granddaughter Rayleigh Moylan. Also, her sister Janie DeLaney (Graham) and beloved niece Natalie Arledge (Chuck), as well as her constant companion Elvis, her Yorkie, and numerous other family and friends who loved her dearly.
Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 3 from 4-6 pm at Harper Funeral Home. Service will be Tuesday, Jan. 4 at 10 am at Southland Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Curran officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be family members. She was a member of Southland and loved her Sunday School class. Judy never met a stranger and once she made a friend, it was for life.
