Curtis James Whitlock, 56, of San Angelo earned his wings Thursday September 30, 2021, surrounded by his family. Curtis was born February 19, 1965, to James Sr. and Gracie Whitlock.
He married Karen Templin April 14, 1984. He graduated from Lake View High School in 1984. He began his 35-year career with Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) June 1, 1984, and retired August 31, 2019. He enlisted in the Texas Army National Guard in April 1986 and retired after 30 years in April 2016. He was deployed to Iraq with the 3/112th. Armored Division in January 2005 to December 2005. Then again to Afghanistan with the 454th Engineer Co. April 2014 to January 2015. Curtis received many awards, achievements, and medals. He was admired, loved, and respected by many. He was very dedicated to family, co-workers, friends, and brothers-in-arms. Curtis loved fishing, hunting, gardening, farming, raising sheep, reading, spending time with this family, his beloved dogs Betsy, Boo, Copper, and his best buddy Ranger. He also loved to travel the world. He had a great love of the outdoors; gardening and planting trees were his favorite hobbies. He loved sharing his harvest with family and friends. He enjoyed making objects/animals with the vegetables and sending pictures to his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife Karen of 37 years, daughter Emily and son Zane. Sister Beverly Watkins. Sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Ricky Williford and family. Brother Richard Whitlock, Sr., and family. Brother James Whitlock, Jr., and family. Parents-in-law Walt and Carolyn Templin. Brother and sister-in-law Rocky Sr. and Pam Templin and family. Sister and brother-in-law Shari and Paul Horne and family. Many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, October 23, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Johnson Street Church of Christ, officiated by Bryan Elliott. Services will be directed by Harper Funeral Home.
