Janye Evelyn Barclay Barnes passed away on September 22, 2021 in San Angelo, Texas at age 86. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of San Angelo on Monday, September 27 at 11:00am in the Sanctuary.
Janye was born on December 28, 1934 to Bronson Cooper and Louise Elizabeth Anderson Barclay in Silsbee, Texas. After losing her parents at a young age, she went to live with her sister and family and was reared as the only sister in a houseful of rambunctious boys. Janye graduated from Silsbee High School and attended Sam Houston State University.
Janye married Robert Dorsey, “Bob” Barnes on July 1, 1962 and they recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. She was a homemaker in the truest sense of the word and treated anyone who walked in her door as a cherished family member. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she was a source of light and love for them who instilled a legacy of kindness in them.
Preceding her in death are her parents, siblings: Thomas Bronson Barclay, Douglas Hopson, “Buck” Barclay, Frank Anderson, “Poncho” Barclay, and Kathryn Isobel, “Kate” Barclay Hargrove; and her nephews: Larry and Lyn Hargrove; as well as many family members whom she dearly missed to the day she died.
Janye is survived by her husband, Bob; her daughters: Lisa Barnes Hirschfeld and her husband, Kendall; and Amy Barnes Landon and her husband, Clint. Her grandchildren are Christopher Louis Hirschfeld, Amanda Grace Hirschfeld, and Robert Harrison, “Bobby” Hirschfeld and they will cherish her memory forever. Also her nephews, whom she loved like brothers, Van, Steve, and Ricky Hargrove and their families.
Honorary pallbearers are her best girlfriends that she started 1st grade with: Jackie Wilson Read, Carolyn Gilchriest Cater, Silvia Swarthout Parker, and posthumously: Mary Grace Bower and Glane Smith. The Cheers Sunday School class of First United Methodist Church also held a special place in her heart.
The family wishes to thank: The staff at Lyndale San Angelo Senior Living, the staff and volunteers at Hospice of San Angelo, Dr. Denver Marsh and Dr. Ty Hughston and their staffs who provided grace-filled and Christ-like care for our mother and to our family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children’s Fund at First United Methodist Church (37 E. Beauregard San Angelo, TX 76903) or Hospice of San Angelo (1933 University San Angelo, TX 76901).
