David Wayne Crawford of Carlsbad, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for, and loved on September 14, 2021 at the age of 47. David was born in San Angelo, Texas, on April 4, 1974 to Joe and Cathy (Morgan) Crawford. He graduated from Central High School in 1992.
In 1991, David met his high school sweetheart Amy Ayers. They were married on September 19, 1999. In 2005, they welcomed their daughter Emily Elaine and in 2007 their son Ely Charles, completing their dream of having a family. They built their forever home in Water Valley in 2007. David was always planning his family’s next adventure which could be anything from snow skiing to deep sea fishing and everything in between.
Emily and Ely were the joy of David’s life. He was a constant presence at their school functions, sporting events, and many other activities through the years. Always ready to serve his community, David was a volunteer coach for North Concho Little League, Water Valley Youth Football, and Little Dribbler Basketball. He also served as a Water Valley ISD School Board Trustee and contributed to many other organizations and causes in San Angelo.
In 2006 David took a leap of faith and started Crawford Construction. He purchased a Caterpillar Track Loader based on the sage advice of his father Joe. Over 15 years later that business has grown to include multiple crews servicing many builders, commercial contractors, and residential customers. Although David is no longer running the day-to-day, he will always be involved. He instilled a quality of workmanship in his crews that is unmatched and will continue to live on. His professionalism and business sense shines through the work Crawford Construction continues to do. After David’s passing one builder commented that the roads to the Pearly Gates must have needed some work and God called the best.
David is survived by his wife Amy and their children Emily and Ely. He is also survived by his mother, Cathy Crawford; his sister Carole Simmons, her husband David and their children, Michael, Matthew, and Meredith; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Gary and Teresa Ayers; his sister in-law Amber Pitcock, her husband Jerrod and their children Brody, Kylen, and Jewel; his brother-in-law Austin Ayers, his wife Logan, and their children Jaedyn and Quade. He is also survived by another very special family member, his grandmother-in-law Bettye Ayers, affectionately known as Nanny; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and good friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Crawford.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the physicians and staff at Shannon Medical Center for their care and compassion during David’s illness.
Graveside service will be Monday, September 20th at 10:00am at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens officiated by Jimmy Hill. Immediately following there will be a Celebration of Life with a meal at Ought2 Ranch 6733 Highway 208 in San Angelo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice.
We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name.
In LIFE we loved you dearly. In death we do the SAME.
It broke our HEARTS to lose you, you did not go alone;
For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories, your LOVE is still our guide;
And though we cannot see you, you are always at our SIDE.
Our FAMILY CHAIN is broken and nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.
