Muriel “Pan” Ann (Quinlan) Schrimpf, passed away peacefully on 09/07/2021 in San Angelo, Texas at the age of 92 surrounded by close family.
Muriel was born August 19, 1929 in Covington, Kentucky, to Robert and Eleanor (Riordan) Quinlan. She spent nearly all of her young life in Northern Kentucky and graduated with a degree in Sociology from Our Lady of Cincinnati College “Edgecliff”, (merged with Xavier University 1980). Muriel married Charles Frances Schrimpf on June 21, 1952 in Cincinnati, Ohio. They lived in various locations within the US while Charles was in the air force, medical school, and residency, but afterward settled in Dayton, Ohio. Muriel devoted her time and efforts to raising her family of five children there.
Muriel held a deep fondness for her extended Schrimpf family. She always loved their gatherings, referring to them as “such a fun bunch!” Muriel also enjoyed reconnecting and keeping in touch with the Riordan clan, particularly in her later years.
Muriel, or “Pan” as those close to her were familiar, strongly valued education and sought to convey its importance to her children and grandchildren throughout her life. When her family had grown, Pan launched her own retail store, The Petite Woman, which was in operation approximately ten years. After retiring, Pan continued to share her love of learning with many of her dear, like-minded friends by enthusiastically attending LLI (Lifelong Learning Institute) classes at the University of Dayton. Until her own physical challenges prohibited attendance, Pan regularly participated in Catholic worship services at the University of Dayton Chapel and very much cherished the spiritual guidance as well as fellowship she enjoyed there. As those closest to Pan may know, she felt a special devotion to the Blessed Mother, often prayerfully and spontaneously expressing gratitude in true Irish fashion. In her final years, Pan moved to San Angelo, Texas where her eldest daughter was located. The family is grateful for the members of Grace Presbyterian Chapel of San Angelo for embracing and ministering to Pan in her final years.
Muriel was preceded in death by her parents Eleanor and Robert Quinlan, her only sibling, Robert Quinlan, her husband, Charles Schrimpf, her son, Michael Schrimpf, her granddaughter, Ashley Schrimpf, and grandson, Ryan Schrimpf. She is survived by her children, Mark Schrimpf (Norma Jean), Frances Early (Thomas), Anita Leach (Donald), and Patricia Wallace (Michael); her grandchildren Adam Schrimpf (Katie), Aaron Schrimpf, Colin Early, Karen Early (Leah), Donald Leach III (Eileen), Demetrius Leach, DeeAnn Acton (David), Nicolette Wallace, Rachel Wallace, and Zachary Wallace; and numerous great-grandchildren.
A memorial service celebrating Pan’s life will be held later this fall with family and friends in Ohio.
Pan’s family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the many caretakers who conscientiously and lovingly looked after her daily needs during her final years.
