On August 28, 2021, Gina Gomez, 45, of Big Lake, TX, entered eternal rest and gained her angel wings. Gina was born on August 21, 1976 to Rodolfo and Eustolia Ortiz in Iraan, TX. She graduated from Reagan County High School in 1994. It was then that she and Marco first met.
Marco and Gina met her senior year of high school while she was working as a lifeguard. He was only an 8th grader and thought it was funny to splash her. After graduating, she left for college then came back to Big Lake 3 years later with her firstborn son, Julian. She was working at the grocery store when she and Marco reconnected. He was a sophomore at the time. They became great friends and although he was young, he always made sure she was okay. A few years passed and she had a daughter, Alexia. Even then, Marco always made sure that Gina and her kids were taken care of.
Being best friends eventually grew into a more serious relationship and into a family. Marco and Gina married in July of 2005 and had one more child, Sebastian. They spent a total of 16 years married, 18 years together, and 24 years of being best friends.
He was her Jack and she was his Sally. They loved each other unconditionally through the good times and the bad. She was truly a blessing to him and the best wife and mother her kids could have asked for. They will miss so much of her. Her big beautiful smile, art nights where Marco would be painting on one half of the table and Gina would be making cakes on the other half of the table. Marco will miss her laugh, her hugs and kissing her cheeks a million times before going to work. The smell of her baking in the kitchen… he will miss everything about her and never stop loving and finding his way back to his Sally.
Her kids will also miss her dearly. She was everything to them and they were everything to her. She was very proud and supported them like no other, no matter the circumstance. She was 100% behind her kids on anything and everything. From sports to band, to even the trouble they got in. It didn’t matter. She always made them the best birthday parties and the best cakes. She loved everything about her family and children. Her husband and her kids are so so very grateful for the time spent with her here and will always love, cherish and miss everything about her. As she always said, “Family is EVERYTHING”
Her family wanted everyone to know that Gina also loved her community and all of her customers dearly. She loved putting smiles on people’s faces and helping others in any way she could, especially with her cakes. She donated so many cakes and cupcakes to teachers and local organizations. She also loved to treat her neighbors with goodies from time to time. Her favorite way to treat the community and celebrate her favorite holiday was to open the house on Halloween and give away cupcakes, candy, popcorn balls, and witches brew punch. We know the community will also miss her.
Gina was predeceased in death by her parents Rodolfo and Eustolia Ortiz. She is survived by her husband of 16 years, Marco Gomez, her son Julian Perez, daughter Alexia Castañeda, son Sebastian Gomez, and grandson Matteo Vélez Perez. She is also survived by her siblings Rodolfo (Rudy) Ortiz, Jr and wife Sandra, Rolando (Roy) Ortiz and wife Margarita Castañeda, Richard A. Ortiz and wife Juanita, Rose Ortiz Armendarez and husband Alonzo, Rebecca Ortiz Abercromby and husband James, and Roberta Ortiz Barrera and husband Rudy. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and other family members that loved her dearly.
