The love story is complete. Our mother has finally joined our father in the house of the Lord. Our mother Rachel Diaz passed away Thursday, August 26, 2021 in San Antonio. She was born on April 27, 1933 in Knickerbocker, Texas to Romolo and Alvina Morales. She married the love of her life, Eulogio Diaz on September 17, 1955 and together they made their home in San Angelo, eventually moving to Grape Creek. She worked many years and ultimately retired from Angelo State University. She loved sewing and making blankets for the grandchildren and thereafter the great grandchildren. She loved to hear that her blankets were traveling all over the world. Her faith in God was unwavering and she was a devout Catholic being a member of Saint Mary’s Parish for most of her life.
Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, Eulogio Diaz, her parents Romolo and Alvina Morales, sister Eva Torres and brothers, Ramon and Reynaldo Morales. She is survived by her children, Jesse Diaz and wife Rosie of Christoval, Angela Diaz of San Angelo, Eulogio Diaz, Jr. and wife Felipa of Grape Creek, Antonio Diaz and wife Kyna of Shippensburg, PA and Mary Cantu and husband Sam of San Antonio. Rachel was blessed with 13 grandchildren, Andrew Hernandez, Tana Hernandez King, Miguel Diaz, Manuel Diaz, Maria Diaz-Webber, Monica Diaz, Shanna Brooks, Rachel Diaz-Debias, Morgan Diaz-Stoner, Angela Leija, Cynthia Lujan, Mencho Cantu, Jr. and Christopher Cantu. Rachel’s heart strings were attached to the 22 great grandchildren that she had, Luis Diaz, Rebecca and Ray Webber, Isabela and Xavier Martinez, Gina, Salma and Addie Hernandez, Maverick King, Raynen and Noah Brooks, Celina Debias, Jack and Caroline Stoner, Mick Hinds, Francis Murcheck, Salem Cantu, Lieam Hernandez, Kameron, Kristopher and Kaci Lujan and Castello Diaz.
A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 29, 2021 in the chapel of Johnson’s Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 30, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with interment to follow in Knickerbocker Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Manuel Diaz, Miguel Diaz, Andrew Hernandez, Diego Lujan, Jesse Urias and Reggie Torres.
Rachel’s family would like to thank Transciend Hospice of San Antonio for all their help and support and a special Thank you to her personal care giver Diana Rodriguez for taking such good care of our mother.
