Paulette Jean Arzate passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. Paulette was born in San Antonio, Texas on January 23, 1948, to Paul Frank Malenowsky and Frankie Imogene Head. Paulette married the love of her life, Joe Flores Arzate, on February 1, 1969, in Weatherford, Texas. Paulette was a devoted and loving wife to Joe for 53 years and she was his “Buttercup” from day one. She was a wonderful sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is preceded in death by her parents, eldest sister Ethel Ann Roy, half-brother David Paul Malenowsky, and half-sister Cheryl Ann Malenowsky. She is survived by her loving sister Linda Briseno & husband Lupe of San Antonio, sister Ann Roy’s husband Eddie of San Angelo, half-sister Dianne M. Frey of Nashville, her three children Michael Arzate & wife Jennifer of Spring Branch, Mark Arzate & wife Delinda of Lavon, and Kimberly Arzate & Marcus of San Angelo. She had six grandchildren, Caitlin, Paulina, & Mikayla of Austin, Madison & Anthony of Lavon, and Garrett of Dallas. She had four stepchildren, Joe Arzate Jr. & wife Wilma, Dinah Flores & husband Robert, Angie Delarosa & husband Raul, and Jerry Arzate & Vivian. Paulette also had many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews of whom she was extremely proud.
Paulette never met a stranger; she and her husband Joe were heavily involved in the community throughout their years together in Ft. Worth and San Angelo. Paulette was a member of Phi Theta Kappa and was President of the Pan American Wives Association while Joe was President of the Pan American. These are just two of the numerous organizations she participated in throughout her life. Paulette worked at West Texas Utilities and retired from American Electric Power in January 2003. Over the years, the friendships they created are countless. Arlene Gunyon, Greg Charles, Modesto Gutierrez, Ray & Julie Zapata, Henry & Ofelia Ojeda, and Arthur & Penny Hernandez are just some of the many friendships she cherished greatly.
Paulette loved nothing more than entertaining family and friends. Paulette made any gathering feel magical. Through her special and detailed touch, she made sure every person felt as though even the simplest occasion was an experience. Christmas was especially dear to her and if you knew her or were lucky enough to spend time at her and Joe’s home during the holidays, you know how amazing she made it. From the numerous themed trees to the handwritten street signs for her village, Paulette made sure when you came to her home you were in a Christmas wonderland; you can ask her husband Joe as he has strung many Christmas lights throughout the years.
Graceful, loving, and caring are only some of the descriptions when thinking of Paulette. She always wanted everyone around her to feel welcomed and comfortable. She would go out of her way to help any one of her family members or friends during a rough patch. She knew exactly how to turn someone’s trying time into a new beginning. Her positive outlook on life will never be forgotten.
Her family would like to express their gratitude to everyone for their prayers, visits, and words of kindness through this difficult time. The family appreciates the medical professionals – specifically Dr. Kai Sun, D.O., Dr. Rebecca Crenshaw, M.D., Dr. Christopher C. Peterson, M.D. – for their support and guidance. A very special thank you to Stacy Munoz for not only being her care giver during her final months but for becoming part of the family and treating Paulette and Joe as if they were her own parents.
We will always carry Paulette’s spirit and memory in all our hearts.
