Dr. Jerome Worth Snyder, 86, of San Angelo died February 27, 2021 in San Angelo. He was preceded in death in 2004 by his wife of 45 years, Henrietta and is survived by their daughter, Lucy A. Snyder, of Worthington, Ohio.
Dr. Snyder was born to Lee Syntell Snyder of Cincinnati, OH and Dorothy Arlene Raines Snyder, of Covington, VA on January 5, 1935 in Huntington, West VA. He was a graduate of North Charleston High School, in South Carolina. Enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, 1952-1960, he trained as a Russian Language Specialist and served in Korea at the rank of Sergeant, at USAFSS headquarters in San Antonio. After discharge, he applied his GI Bill benefits to resuming his education, and graduated from the University of South Carolina and the Medical University of South Carolina. In 1975, he accepted an Air Force commission as Major and moved to San Angelo to serve the Goodfellow USAF Clinic until 1979. He stayed in San Angelo to serve briefly at the San Angelo State School but went into private practice in Psychiatry until 1982.
He married Henrietta Holcombe of Anderson South Carolina, in 1959 while working as a staff announcer and news editor at WCSC – TV in Charleston.
His other appointments included: USFDA staff internship in Washington, D.C., from 1965-1966; Staff WHO Division of Pharmacology and Toxicology in Geneva, Switzerland from 1966 – 1968; General-practice physician for Sea Island Comprehensive Health Care Corporation, Johns’ and Yonges’ Islands, South Carolina from 1973 – 1974.
