Dorothy was born November 5, 1926 in Winters, Texas. In 1934 her family moved to San Angelo, where she lived the rest of her life. Dorothy graduated from San Angelo High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society, One Act Play and even cheered in the Bobcat football State Championship game in 1943. She went on and attended San Angelo Junior College and the University of Texas.
She married her high school sweetheart, Oron Lee Schuch, on July 25, 1946. Their first date was on Oron Lee’s 16th birthday. After waiting to graduate high school and Oron Lee to serve in the Navy in the South Pacific, they finally tied the knot once World War II was over. They celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary on July 25, 2016. Dorothy’s faith was very important to her. She has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church for over 70 years. She taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for many years.
Dorothy was very creative. She loved sewing, needlepointing, writing poetry, creating her songs for “The Golfets” who sang at golf tournaments, and making cards on the computer to send too many for birthday and holidays. She learned to play golf at an older age, but found a passion for the game. Through that game she made many lifelong friends whom with they travelled around playing different courses and in many tournaments. Dorothy was also an avid bridge player and part of the bridge club that originated in the 1950’s as well as several others. She was also one of the first volunteers for Shannon Auxiliary when it was first organized.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Oron Lee Schuch, her parents, Lucille and John Donham, her in-laws, Edwin and Cecil Schuch, and three sister in-laws, Frances Barton, Margaret Childs, and, Alyce Runge, and son-in-law, Ben Doherty.
She is survived by her three children and their families: daughter, Brenda O’Dell (Sam) of Athens, son, Lee Schuch (Annabeth) of Georgetown, and daughter, Susan Little (Paul) of San Angelo; her grandchildren, Andrea Schuch of Florida, Brian Schuch (Natsuko) of Japan, Travis Little (Sarah) of Farmers Branch, Blair Little of Kyle, and Garrett Little of Midland; her great-grandchildren, Avery, Skylar, and Riley Schuch of Japan; sister, Judy Wilde (Myrl); two sisters-in-law, Mary Louise Strain and Helene Hope Russell all of San Angelo; and many nieces and nephews.
The family wants to thank Dena Stewart for the many years of love and care she has given to take care of both Mother (D) and Daddy (Papa) during their time of need. We also want to thank the Regency House and Hospice of San Angelo for the wonderful care they gave and Harper Funeral Home for their love and support.
