Benny Lawrence Thompson, age 69 of San Angelo, Texas died December 6, 2020 in San Angelo.
Public viewing will be held on Sunday, December 13th from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Robert Massie Funeral Home. Due to COVID19 the family has chosen to celebrate Benny’s life in a private service with the Rev. L.E. Pope of New Light Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be at Lawnhaven Cemetery. Arrangements are by Robert Massie Funeral Home. On Sunday, December 6, 2020, at 2:00, the sunset on Benny (BT) Lawrence Thompson age 69 after complications from the Coronavirus. Benny was born to Elmas Sr & Clarice Thompson, April 4, 1951, in San Angelo, Texas. Benny was baptized at an early age and became of member of New Light Baptist Church, where he served on the Ushers Board. He was an active member of the Imperial Choir and the Male Chorus. As a child, Benny loved playing baseball. He graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1970 and enlisted in the USAF shortly after that. Benny served his country honorably as a Medical Tech and stationed in Rheinmein, Germany, where he played football for the Rhein-Main Rockets. BT served in Guam as well. Benny was honorably discharged in March 1976 and returned home to his beloved San Angelo. Benny worked at West Texas Utilities until his retirement. Benny served his community as an active member of the NAACP and also the American Legion Post 572. He loved San Angelo so much that he purchased the property across from the home he grew up in to watch over his mother. Benny loved to fish and had a passion for baseball as well. Later in life, Benny enjoyed playing scratch-offs, fantasy football, and manicuring his lawn.
Benny is reunited in death with the love of his life Ima Janice (Jan), his parents Elmas Sr and Clarice Thompson, his brothers- Elmas Thompson Jr., Earl Thompson, Larry D. Thompson, and his daughter Dixie Thompson. Benny is with God now and leaves daughters Jacqueline (Matthew) Perr of Huntsville, Al., Heather Byrd of San Angelo, TX, Jennifer Jackson of Tacoma WA., son Chris (Wade) AufderHeide of Fort Worth, TX; grandchildren: Joshua (Chloe) Perr, Jaiyleana Perr, Joyvonna Perr, Michael Evans Victoria Jackson, Trey(Sarah) Jackson, Jana Hibbitts, Robert Hibbitts, Ebony Goodloe (Jay Fuentes) Kayla Watson, & Lauryn Byrd, Madison AufderHeide and Jenai Williams: ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Eva Joyce Hammonds of San Angelo, TX, Arzulia (Tyrone) Fields of Dallas, GA, and numerous nieces and nephews. Last but not least, his constant companion, Fancy, his beloved cat.
