Minerva was born August 21, 1931, in Zaragoza, Mexico to her parents Martin and Thomasita Villarreal. Minerva came to Texas to be with her brother in Ozona. It was there that she met the love of her life, Juan Acosta, the two married on October 25, 1955, and later, his job landed them on a ranch outside Mertzon in 1961.
Minerva made Mertzon her home and became an important part of the community. In 1976 the family moved from the ranch into town. a few years later in 1979, Minerva started caring for children in her home. Many children were cared for and she loved them as her own. Her expertise in baking and cooking was something to be cherished. She excelled in tamale making and will also be remembered for her famous potato rolls, cinnamon rolls, and her German chocolate cake. On top of baking and cooking many meals: she also loved sharing her baked goods not only with her family but with her friends. Minerva volunteered and provided various food items to the church.
She was a loving wife and mother but make no mistake about it, she could "swing a mean belt" if the need arose to keep her children in line. Minerva cherished her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed the occasional alcoholic beverage.
Minerva was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Carmelita, Hortencia and Dora; brothers, Ernesto, Encarnacion, Ramon, Valdo, Leopoldo, Raul, Martin; and a grandson, Abram.
Left to cherish her memory and love are her two daughters, Angelica Calderon and her husband Al of San Angelo and Patricia Brown of San Antonio; her three sons, Arnaldo Acosta and his wife Martha, Albert Acosta and his wife Maria and John Acosta and his wife Jodi all of Mertzon; her sisters, Ofelia Ramirez of San Angelo and Guillermina Hyten of Del Rio; two brothers, Vicente Villarreal of Midland and Guadalupe Villarreal of San Angelo; her grandchildren, Aubrey Calderon, Cassandra Acosta, Gabriel Acosta, Alexis Brown, Mia Brown, Naya Brown, Joseph Padilla, Jonathan Padilla and Alexandra Padilla; and her great-grandchildren, Khristian and Ashton Dupree, Jacob Eli Acosta, Rhyder Acosta, Eben Padilla and Case Padilla.
