Maria Zamora Gaitan, lived to a great age of 91, and departed on July 17, 2020 at Angelo Community Hospital in San Angelo, TX. Born on December 24, 1928 in Baytown, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Guillermo O. Gaitan, her parents: Carlos Rodriguez Zamora and Maria De Luisa Escamilla; two brothers: Carlos Zamora and Paul Zamora and three sisters: Maria Carmen Zamora, Maria Arcelia Saenz, and Maria Delores Zamora.
Maria was the second oldest of ten children who was raised to never let anyone get the best of you and knew what it meant to put in a hard day’s work. As a young girl she worked on her family’s ranch along with her siblings and we were told that she could ride a horse and shoot a gun better than most men.
Maria loved animals, being outdoors and taking care of her grandchildren, which she did on several occasions. She was also an extraordinarily strong, independent courageous women who raised her five children on her own after her husband died and never let anyone forget that she could take care of herself.
Maria leaves to cherish her memories her five children, Gloria Abdelmonem, Teresa Doty, Alise (Tony) Biggs, Guillermo “Bill” (Diane) Gaitan Jr, and Irene Z. (Tony) O’Neal, and twelve grandchildren, Charles M. Gaitan, Monique Robinson, L.D. Doty III, Terri Doty, Alyson DeHoyos, Haley Biggs, Tyler Biggs, Miranda Schmidt, Rudy Ruiz, Kinon O’Neal, Kiana O’Neal, and Kuintin O’Neal and 15 greatgrandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Her youngest brother Rafael Zamora, and two younger sisters Violet Zamora, and Elva Zamora.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Anyone who had the opportunity to get to know her was lucky because she was a tough lady and you would know that upon your first meeting.
Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Angelo Community Hospital for taking such great care of our mother.
