Our beloved Wife, Mother, and Mimi, Sandra Kay White Truett entered her heavenly home August 7, 2018 at the age of 61 in San Angelo, Texas.
Sandra was born on February 12, 1957 in San Angelo, Texas to Darrell and Betty White. She graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1975, and then attended Angelo State University where she graduated with an Associates degree in nursing May 14, 1977.
She married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Thomas Truett on May 21, 1977. Thomas and Sandra enjoyed numerous activities together, including bowling and square dancing, before deciding to start a family. Sandra worked as an O.R. circulating nurse at St. John’s from 1977 – 1984, but when the couple lost their son, Brandon, to a birth defect, she made the decision to stay at home with their two daughters, Kristen and Brenda.
Sandra was always supportive of any activity her girls were involved with and spent the next twenty years shuttling the girls to school activities, sports, music concerts, and dance lessons. She was a lifetime member of Girl Scouts and volunteered a lot of her time coordinating cookie sales, chaperoning trips, and serving as troop leader. Sandra maintained her certification as a registered nurse in Texas throughout her life and utilized her wonderful skills to serve as a Camp Nurse for both the Girl Scouts and her church’s summer camps.
After both daughters graduated valedictorian from San Angelo Central High School, Sandra went back to work for Habitat for Humanity as Office Manager from 2006 till 2011 before stepping down to help care for her aging mother. Sandra was an avid supporter of Angelo State University and served as the President of ASU’s FAME board. She and Thomas were also members of ASU’s President’s Circle.
Sandra enjoyed sewing and was a member of Hanging By a Thread. She found her true calling when her grandchildren came along; they were her joy. She just loved spending time with them when she was able. Her family will remember her every time they use one of her remarkable pillowcases she made with love during her breast cancer treatments.
She will be remembered as a compassionate nurse, supporter of the arts, and a leading figure in the community. Her daughters remember her as a driven, brilliant woman “smartest person she knew” and a doting mother who encouraged them to pursue their dreams like getting a Master’s degree in Chemistry or moving to New York.
The greatest gift she instilled in her family was her love of God and her faith. Sandra was a member of Johnson Street Church of Christ since November 1972.
Sandra passed away peacefully in her home after her breast cancer aggressively returned.
She was preceded in death by her son, Brandon Truett and parents, Darrell and Betty White of San Angelo, Texas.
Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Thomas Truett; two daughters, Kristen Truett Suprobo and husband Perwira Joshua of Plano, Texas, Brenda Truett Henry and husband Sean of New York, NY; two grandchildren, Rianti and Buntolo Suprobo of Plano, Texas; two brothers, Kevin White and wife Melanie of Burleson, Texas, and Bruce White and wife Kim of Billings, MT; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank her friend, Deanna Hicks, and numerous members of Johnson Street Church of Christ for their continued support and care, whether that was taking her to appointments, bringing her coffee, or just having a conversation with her.
Family visitation will be held on August 17th from 6-8 p.m. at Harper Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be held on August 18th at 10 a.m. at Johnson Street Church of Christ with internment to follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
