Lucinda Castro “Lucy” Zapata, 88, of San Angelo went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, in San Angelo.
The Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 4th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. Joey Faylona as celebrant.
Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Lucy was born February 27, 1930 in Crystal City, Texas to Guadalupe and Refugio Rios Castro. She grew up in Ciudad, Acuña and Del Rio where she received her early catholic education. At the age of 16 she traveled to California to work as a migrant farm laborer and later worked at the Gerber Baby Foods Cannery.
She married Jessie Zapata in 1948 and they shared 67 beautiful years of marriage working hard together, they sought a better life initially through migrant laborer work, traveling to Texas, California and the Midwest. During their marriage, they took on an opportunity to start the family Home Insulation company in 1961 and raised four sons and one daughter.
Jessie and Lucinda dedicated themselves to their family and their catholic church and Angelo Catholic School. Alongside Jessie, Lucy played an active role in the success of Home Insulation. She loved her catholic faith and many priests and sisters that guided her throughout her life.
Lucy is remembered by her beauty, charm, compassion and her energetic enthusiasm towards life and others. The last few years she volunteered at Shannon Hospital Auxiliary and Catholic Outreach.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jessie, her son Oscar Zapata and 3 Brothers.
She is survived by her children, Ray Zapata and wife Julie, Jessie Zapata, Jr. and wife Joan, Daniel Zapata and wife Diana; and her only daughter, Rebecca Anna Maria Zapata; daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen; 18 Grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to those who cared for her medically and spiritually throughout the years.
