Doris Evelyn Fannin Britton, age 79, of Midland passed away due to a brief illness on July 29, 2018 at Midland Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on August 1st at Harper Funeral Home Chapel. Brother Brad Winchester of Grape Creek Baptist Church will be officiating.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on July 31st at Harper Funeral Home. The Graveside Service will be 10 a.m., Friday, August 6th at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas.
Doris was born in McCamey, TX on October 29, 1938 to Ora Kathrine Burk and Daniel Franklin (D.F.) Fannin. She was the youngest of four children, Dan Fannin, Bobbie Fannin King and Bill Fannin. She graduated from Odessa High School in Odessa, TX in 1957.
Doris was married to Walter Wilson Britton on May 6, 1960; they were married 56 years and was blessed with two children. Walt proceeded her in death on January 14, 2017. They are now together for eternity.
Doris worked for National Life and Accident Insurance Company in Odessa prior to marrying and becoming a wife and mother. She did odd jobs but never worked for long as she was active in their children's lives in school and sports, soccer, football, and tennis. She was a team mother in every sense of the word.
Although she had children, all of their friends loved her as well. She touched the lives of everyone she met. Doris will be missed by everyone that knew her.
Doris is survived by her brother Bill Fannin of San Angelo, TX, sister-in-law Glynetta Callan of Rotan, TX, daughter Karen and Buddy Maples of Mesquite, TX, son John Scott and Carollee Britton of Midland, TX, grandsons Brandon and Anna Harris of Hawley,TX, Christopher and Serena Harris of Saginaw, TX, Austin and Victoria Britton of Leander, TX, and Baylee Britton of Midland, TX, granddaughters Jessica Harris of Midland, TX, Lyndi and Jason Lewis of Midland, TX, Ashley Moore of Chesapeake, VA, great grandchildren, Jordan and Brystin Harris, Navaida, Reese, and Lillie Harris, Jonathan and Sterling Murphy, and TatumGrace Lewis, Brantley Umstot, and many uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Walter, a brother Dan Fannin, sister Bobbie King, and granddaughter Tatum Layne Britton.
Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons.
Special thank you to Dr. Bassett and the staff at Midland Memorial Hospital for the care Doris received during her brief stay.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be sent to The Texas Lion's Camp at P.O. Box 290247, Kerrville, Texas 78029-0247 in which Doris was a Century Club member and a fellow Lion of the Midland Westside Lion's Club.
