Rachel Zamarippa-Elkins, 74, of San Angelo, TX passed away after a prolonged illness on Sunday, June 10, 2018 surrounded by her loving husband and three boys.
Rachel was born June 12, 1943 in San Angelo, TX to the late Ralph M. & Jessie Zamarippa. Rachel is remembered as a devout Christian woman who had a deep, heartfelt love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Although she faced a long, courageous battle with cancer, she was steadfast in sharing her faith and love for God with all that crossed her path.
Rachel absolutely loved her Paul Ann church family and was always so eager to volunteer her time to educate the children of Paul Ann on God's teachings.
Rachel cherished her time with friends, family and husband Arthur R. Elkins. Rachel & Art spent the early part of their married lives together traveling the world as part of the Air Force family. They made many lifelong friends along the way and made memories that have lasted a lifetime. After Art retired from the Air Force in 1980, they planted the roots of their young family in Rachel's birth home, San Angelo.
Rachel was a career hairdresser who maintained her own beauty salon and retired in 2006. Once retired, her & Art traveled the U.S. visiting family, friends and continually building upon their memories along their travels.
Rachel leaves behind her husband, Arthur Elkins of San Angelo, sons Randy Elkins & wife Melinda of DFW, TX, Jody Elkins of Littleton, Colorado and Art Elkins Jr. & wife Gwen of San Angelo. Rachel, one of 8 siblings, leaving behind sister Rita & husband Willie Tambunga of DFW, TX, Roy Zamarippa & wife Jeanine of Loveland, Colorado, Ralph Zamarippa Jr. of San Angelo, Raymond Zamarippa & wife Gina of DFW, TX and Ronnie Zamarippa & wife Gilda of San Angelo.
Rachel was preceded in death by her sister Rosie Zamarippa and brother Rudy Zamarippa.
Rachel is a grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
Pallbearers will be sons Randy, Jody & Art Elkins, brother Raymond Zamarippa, grandson Jace Elkins and Billy Boland.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 14th from 6-8 p.m. at Johnson's Funeral home, 435 W Beauregard Ave, San Angelo, TX 76903 (325) 655-3113.
Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on June 15th at Paul Ann Church at 2531 Smith Blvd, San Angelo, TX 76905.
