Glenda Faye Mathers, age 83, of San Angelo and formerly of Sweetwater passed away Sunday at Sagecrest Care Center in San Angelo. She was born February 27, 1935 in Electra, Texas the daughter of Roy and Tinnie Blankenship Maxey.
She graduated from Odessa High School and later married Joseph Mathers who preceded her in death on December 24, 2001. She attended technical school and later worked for Gulf/Chevron Company as a land lessor and locator where she retired from. She was known as a people person who always placed others first and helped many who needed help during her life. She also loved the outdoors especially hunting and fishing and was proud to have been a member of the Red Hat Society and being with friends. She especially loved her grandchildren and being with them.
She is survived by two grandsons, Jason Hefner and his wife Sarita of Sweetwater and Jerod Hefner of Odessa, her granddaughter, Tisha Dubose and her husband Dustin of Odessa, her son-in-law, Bill Hefner of Robert Lee, five grandchildren, Belinda Bugarin and husband Bo of San Angelo, Kelsee Hefner of Dallas, Brooke Hefner of Sweetwater, Brody Dubose and Ryan Dubose both of Odessa, two great-great grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Trudy Maxey of Odessa, a nephew, Wes Maxey of Odessa, and several cousins including Jack and Jamie Collins of Lubbock. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joe Mathers, a son, Robert Michael Bates, a daughter, Debbie Hefner, and a brother, Roy Maxey. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Wednesday, May 23, at the Robert LeeUnited Methodist Church with graveside services at 2:30 pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa under the direction of Johnson’s Funeral Home of San Angelo.
