Billye Louise (Blackburn) Mayer, 96, of San Angelo died Wednesday April 11, 2018 after a short illness. She was born on March 30, 1922, the daughter of Joe and Thelma Blackburn and sister to J. B. Blackburn of Seymour, Texas, who predeceased her.
On October 29, 1949, she married Edwin S. Mayer, Jr. in Sonora, Texas and together, they raised two sons. Billye was a devoted, loving spouse and mother who was proud of her family and home. She also loved fine antiques and couture fashions, especially if she thought she was getting a bargain. She and Ed spent many wonderful summers at their home in Alto, NM, enjoying horse racing from their table in the Ruidoso Jockey Club. Their New Mexico friends will recall that they almost never missed a social event or a good party.
Billye is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Edwin S. Mayer, Jr.; her sons, Stephen Mayer (Jody) and Ernest Mayer (Annette) of San Angelo; six grandchildren, Megan Mayer Belew (Bill) of Wingate, Garrett Mayer of Dallas, David Mayer (Sarah) of Midland, Braden Mayer (Stephanie) of Denver, CO, George Mayer (Katie) of Houston and Edwin Mayer of Nashville, TN; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by T. J. Meyer, Brea Burke and Jamin Burke of San Angelo, Shelley Meyer Sonnonstine of Ft. Worth and Lacey Meyer Marlow of St. Helena, CA.
The family wishes to thank Rosa Aguero, Silvia Sanchez, Anna Garza, Marta Rose, Miranda Castillo and Bonnie Reyes who have lovingly cared for Billye and Ed for the past several years. Billye was also very close to her former caregiver, Norma Banda.
The family is receiving visitors at 2303 Douglas Drive and a brief, informal visitation will be held on Tuesday April 17, 2018 beginning at 2:00 PM in the River Room at San Angelo Country Club. No services are planned. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
