James Theodore “Teddy” Long, 76, passed away surrounded by his family Wednesday, March 14, 2018.
James “Teddy” Long was born to James “Shorty” Virgil Long and Neoma Trammell Long on January 28, 1942 in San Angelo. Teddy grew up in San Angelo attending Lake View High School and graduated in 1960. Teddy married the love of his life Esta Ann Reed on February 28, 1964 in San Angelo. In 1969 Teddy went to work for the San Angelo Police Department. While in the Police department he was the Sargent of Motorcycle Division, Lieutenant of Night Patrol, and Retired as Captain of Patrol Units in 1992. During that time, he was elected as President of the Texas Municipal Police Association in Austin, Texas in 1984. After his retirement in the Police Department Teddy started a new career as an educator. He began working for San Angelo ISD as a Criminal Justice Teacher for both Central and Lake View High Schools. Teddy developed the SHADOW program and trained students to begin their law enforcement careers by shadowing professionals in the workforce.
Mr. Long is survived by his wife Ann Reed Long; Daughter and “Daddy’s Girl” Leslie Long Taylor her children Beau Wilson Brevard and Aaron Lane Taylor; Brothers Aubrey Long and wife Tammy, Afton Long, Clifford Long and wife Robie; Sisters Ava Hunt and husband Gary, Zena Williamson along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Mr. Long is preceded in death by his parents James “Shorty” and Neoma Long; Sisters Maxine Lohse and Edna Young; Daughter Stacy Lynette Long.
The family would like to thank Community Medical Center Dr. Peter Chang, Dr. Robert Prieto, Intrepid Home Healthcare, Shannon Medical Center, Dr. John Stevenson, Baylor Scott and White in McKinny Dr. Laurie Novasad, Meadow Creek Skilled Facility, Interim Home and Hospice Care.
Although flowers are much appreciated the family ask that you consider donating to the American Cancer Society, The National Stroke Association, Hospice, or any organization of your choice in his memory.
A Visitation will be held at Harper Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, March 16, 2018. A funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 17. There will be no Graveside due to his cremation request.
