Jose Oliverio Gomez, 77, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2017 in San Angelo. He was born October 2, 1940 in Melchor Muzquis, Coah., Mexico to the late, Jose Hernandez and Maria Dejesus Maldonado Gomez. He married the love of his life, Olga Castro on September 16, 1957 in Sabinas, Coah., Mexico. Jose worked over 17 years in the Water Dept. for the City of San Angelo. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Jose found his peace outdoors, spending countless hours hunting, fishing and ranching. Jose had an enormous heart. He was always giving and taking care of others. His greatest joy in life derived from being "PoPo" to his grandchildren, whom he adored. His character and loving spirit will be missed greatly. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose H and Maria de Jesus Gomez; sisters, Maria Elena Diaz and Rosalina Alcaraz; grandchildren, Steven Alexander Torres and Jennifer Lynn Zuniga.
Jose is survived by his wife of 60 years, Olga Gomez; Sister Maria Elisa Gomez Arellano; sons Roberto Gomez (Rosalinda), Oliverio Gomez, Juan Enrique Gomez (Diana); daughters Carmen Deyanira Zuniga (Tomas), Maria de Jesus Rivera (Richard), Dora Elva Flores (Juan); 9 Grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, November 20, 2017 in the Johnson's Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Juan Carlos Diaz, Jose Roberto Gomez, Gregory Ryan Gomez, Gilberto Zuniga, Ricardo Arellano III and Anthony Arellano will serve as pallbearers.
