Barbara Allen Barnett, lovingly called Barb by those who knew her best and Grammy by her grandkids, passed away at the age of 89 in San Angelo, Texas on Friday, the 29th of September with her son, David and her husband, John beside her.
Barbara was born on August 6, 1928 in Lott, Texas to Verdie Viola Castleberry and Ambrose Landrum Allen. She was the tenth of twelve children and had a close relationship with her siblings. She graduated from Davis High School in Houston before attending Draughons Business College in Houston, where she studied bookkeeping. She had a real passion for working with numbers and made a lifelong career out of it. Shortly after, she met her loving spouse of 62 years, John Lee Barnett, in Houston. Texas. They had two beautiful children together, Beverly and David. Her husband opened House of Chemicals in 1965 and she worked there as a bookkeeper from the very beginning. Barbara loved her family more than anything in this world and was always happiest with family nearby. Her hobbies included reading, entertaining family and friends, being with her children and grandchildren, and being with her husband, John. Her greatest joy in life was being a wife, mother and grandmother to her family who miss her beautiful presence greatly. Her capacity for unconditional love and kindness was a marvel to all who met her and will always be remembered.
Barbara was survived by: Husband John Lee Barnett; children Beverly & John O’Rear, David & Linda Barnett; grandchildren Mary Katherine, John Mark, Jane Ellen, Josh, Michelle, JonRandy, Miley & Kaeleen, and 5 great-grandchildren.
The service will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo, Texas. Visitation will be held before the service, from 12:00-1:00. Interment will follow immediately after at Lawnhaven Cemetery.
