Robert "Bob" Horwath passed from this life on August 15, 2017. Bob was born in Nemacolin, Pennyslvania, and grew up in Carmichaels, PA, from 1930 to 1948. Upon graduating high school he enlisted in the USAF in 1948 and remained active duty until his retirement in March of 1969. He married Mary (Pat) Belcher in Eden, Texas in 1952. Pat passed away in 2015 and they had been married for 63 years.
While serving his country he had overseas tours to Greenland and served in Vietnam in 1962 with the 311th Air Command Squadron in Danang. In the U.S he was stationed in Goodfellow AFB, Laredo, Tx, West Palm Beach, FL, Travis AFB in California and Tinker AFB, Oklahoma. He was an aircraft maintenance supervisor with the C-141 wing at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City when he retired. He received the Bronze star and USAF Commendation Medals. He was a senior MSGT and had turned down a promotion to MSGT as he had promised Pat he would retire after 20 years and move back to San Angelo. After returning to Texas, he worked for Prudential Insurance for another 20 years and retired in 1990.
Bob is survived by a brother, Joe Horwath, a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Stephen Barnes, a special granddaughter, Lindsay Barnes, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank his caregivers, Celia Colmanero and Ester Reyes, for taking such good care of him for the last 2 years.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, August 18, 2017, at Johnson's Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 19, 2017, in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens
