Gerri Roach

Mary Geraldine Roach, known as "Gerri," age 85, died on August 8, 2017 in San Angelo. Gerri was born on February 8, 1932 in San Antonio, Texas to Richard Henry Alvey and Mary Geraldine Alvey, ne Coulter. As a child, she lived in San Antonio, Uvalde, and Odessa, and graduated from Odessa High School. After attending a year of classes at Ward Belmont College in Nashville, Tennessee, she enrolled at Sul Ross College in Alpine, Texas, where she met and married Hulet Noyes Roach of Big Lake, Texas. In Big Lake, she worked in retail sales, as a bookkeeper, and upon the death of her husband, as a rancher. Since 1994, she spent many days feeding livestock and attending to the needs of the Roach family ranch in northern Reagan County. Gerri was a faithful member of St. Margaret of Cortona Roman Catholic church, where she served as a donations counter. She was long time member and officer of the Reagan County Garden Club, especially enjoying their club trips across Texas. She also served frequently as a Reagan County election judge. She is survived by daughter Mary Jane Roach of Big Lake, son Rick Roche of Downers Grove, Illinois, and granddaughter Laura Olson and great grandson Eamon Olson, both of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Visitation begins at 5 p.m. on Friday, August 11 at St. Margaret of Cortona Roman Catholic church and is followed by a rosary service at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, August 12 at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret's and is followed by a graveside service at Glen Rest Cemetery in Big Lake. Since Gerri was an avid gardener, flowers are welcomed. As an alternative, a donation to the American Heart Association would be appreciated.
