Kay Kennemer, 77, of San Angelo died Tuesday July 26, at her residence.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday August 5, at First Presbyterian Church with Joel Moore officiating. Arrangements are by Harper Funeral Home.
Kay was born July 22, 1940 in San Angelo to Morris Donald and Mary Fleming Kennemer. She graduated from St. Mary’s Hall in San Antonio, Sul Ross University in Alpine with a degree in Education, and later Texas Women’s University in Denton with a Masters Degree in Library Science. Kay taught English in Fort Hancock and was the first librarian and set up the library at the new John Glenn Junior High in San Angelo. She also taught English on the American Base in Sapporo, Japan, and then was named the Library Coordinator for eleven schools in Big Spring. She was a longtime Mary Kay Cosmetics Consultant. She loved the theater arts and participated in many productions of the Civic Theater in San Angelo and Big Spring. Kay was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her children, Kenneth Hepner and his wife Deanna of Midland, Angela Garlington and her husband Doug of Midland, and Danne Coffman and husband Mark of Lubbock. Grandchildren are Evan Robinson, Amanda Hepner, Connor Hepner, Katherine Garlington, Nathan Garlington and fiancée Sarah Wright, great grandchildren Talan, Ridley Ann, Miles, Brandon and Liam, two sisters Julie Brugger and husband Carl of Granite Shoals, and Donna Crisp and husband Richard of San Angelo. Kay is also survived by many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and their children.
Kay was devoted to her family and friends. She had a warm and loving heart, a keen mind, a beautiful smile, a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh. She was a long-time volunteer to help people with drug abuse issues and has a long trail of friends she helped through hard times. She will be dearly missed.
Memorials may be made to the Fleming/Kennemer Memorial Chapter of the National Honor Society, at Falcon Early College High School, 4940 Founders Rd., Odessa TX 79762. A scholarship(s) for textbooks will be given in her name.
