Our beloved Manuela de Jesus Garcia de Guerra, a longtime resident of San Angelo, went home to our Heavenly Father on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Regency House at the age of 71.
Born on November 6, 1945 in Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico to Jesus and Maria de los Angeles Garcia, she was one of two girls from a family of nine children. Raised on a ranch alongside her brothers, she was tough as nails - strong, courageous and hardworking. Eventually, her family moved to Acuña where she worked for an American-based factory and married Jose Luis Guerra in 1974. In search of a better life, they moved to San Angelo in 1976. Longing for a family of her own, she was blessed with her one and only child, Jose-Luis Angel Guerra, in 1981. Her son was her pride, joy and greatest accomplishment!
A devoted mother and homemaker, Manuela loved to cook with the radio playing in the background, teaching her son to be self-sufficient at an early age. A stranger to no one, she enjoyed chatting, especially with family and her many lifelong friends. But, gardening was her true passion, spending a countless number of hours maintaining a perfectly manicured yard filled with beautiful flowers and fruit trees. She kept an immaculate home as well. And, she did all of this with her makeup and hair done as she was the epitome of what it is to be a lady.
Manuela had an unwavering faith in God, touching a multitude of people with kindness, selflessness and love. She instilled in her son that "it is more blessed to give than to receive," even when facing hardship. Such a beautiful person both inside & out, the sincerity of her smile warmed anyone's heart.
Manuela is survived by her son, Jose-Luis Angel Guerra of San Angelo, and his father, Jose Luis Guerra of Del Rio. Three of her brothers still live: Esteban, Ramon and Jesus Isabel Garcia. She is also survived by six nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own: Juan Cedillo, Catalina Peña, Ramon Cedillo, Alma Martinez, Hilda Garcia and Nicolasa Delgado and their respective families. Plus, she leaves behind a very special family of friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, brother Genaro Garcia, sister Maria Antonia Cedillo and three infant siblings.
The Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M., on Monday, March 13, 2017 Harper Funeral Home (2606 Southland Blvd). A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church (7 W Ave N) with Rev. Joey Faylona as celebrant. Interment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society (3228 College Hills Blvd, San Angelo, TX 76904) and Alzheimer's Association (438 E Houston Harte Expy, San Angelo, TX 76903). Manuela's son is forever indebted to everyone for their love, support and prayers throughout his mother's illness these past five years, especially her team of doctors, nurses, aides and staff.
