Granville Cole “G.C.” Henderson, 88, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 20, 2017 in San Angelo. G.C. was born August 10, 1928 in Roscoe, Texas to Edgar and Elsie Mae Cole Henderson. He grew up in Sweetwater, TX and graduated from Newman High School. G.C. served his country honorably in the Merchant Marines and then in the United States Navy. He married the love of his life, W. Jo Holland on November 19, 1949 and they shared 67 beautiful years together and raised three children. G.C. worked in various places but in 1954 went to work for ARCO. He held several positions over a span of 31 years and retired in 1985 to their ranch in Blackwell. G.C. was active in church work and served as a deacon, an elder and a teacher in the church for many years. He also worked for the State of Texas in a group home for the MHMR department and loved working with the residents for over 5 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and growing fruit trees and pecan trees, taking care of his livestock on the ranch and most of all spending time with his family. He was a devoted father and grandfather who believed in hard work and never being idle. His motto was “Put God first, family and work second, above everything else.” G.C.’s love for his family, his life and his legacy of hard work will live on in our hearts forever. G.C. was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife Jo Henderson, of San Angelo; his sons, Michael Henderson and his wife Nancy, of Alamosa, CO, Rick Henderson and his wife Lynn, of Marlin, TX and Roger Henderson and his wife Kathy, of San Angelo; his grandchildren, Cody Henderson, Chali Henderson, Stefa Munoz, Andrew Henderson, Casey Henderson, Erica Funderburk, Jason Henderson, Toby Henderson, Sarah Henderson, Tyler Henderson, Will Allen and Caleb Allen; and 14 Great Grandchildren. The Memorial Service will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Harper Funeral Home Chapel with Boyd Jennings officiating. The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks and appreciation to the staff at The Springs and Solaris Hospice for all of the loving care given to G.C.
