Frankie Lee Priest Chance, 85, of San Angelo, Texas passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017 at a local retirement center.
Frankie was born September 29, 1931 in Houston, Texas. She achieved many things in her life but the most endearing was as an elementary school teacher in San Angelo for 26 years. Frankie taught at Travis Elementary and then Bonham Elementary. She retired from teaching in 1995. Over the next 20 years, Frankie and her husband, Ben Chance, traveled the country via motorhome. They visited every state except Hawaii.
Frankie grew up in the Houston area and graduated from Milby High School in 1949. She worked for Gulf Oil Company from 1952 until 1965. Life brought her to San Angelo in the mid 1960’s. Frankie received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Angelo State University. She was an accomplished seamstress, artist and amazing cook! Her favorite hobby was ceramics.
Frankie is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Frances (Connell) McKay of San Angelo, her father Leonard Cecil Priest of Houston and her brother Leonard Urlin Priest of San Angelo.
She is survived by her husband, Benny Chance of San Angelo and stepdaughter Jeanie Chance of Houston, stepgrandson, Leighton Chance of Houston, nephew Mark Leonard Priest and wife, Lora, of San Angelo, niece Sande Lee Priest Knapp and husband, Harold of Fredericksburg, niece Bonny Priest of San Angelo and great-nieces and nephews Morgen Priest Smith, Alyssa Marie Priest, Eli Knapp, Alanna Knapp and Ivan Knapp. The family especially recognizes all the wonderful ladies who were Frankie’s sorority sisters.
We encourage all who knew Frankie to attend her life celebration service at 10AM, Monday, February 20th at First Christian Church. The story of her life will be officiated by Pastor Ben Hubert. Graveside services will follow at Lawnhaven Cemetery. Pallbearers are Shawn Smith, Andy Smith, Eli Knapp, and Harold Knapp.
