Robert Neyland Robinson passed away Sunday, January 1, 2017, at his home surrounded by family.
Robert was born to Neyland and Lessie Robinson on August 22, 1936 in Norton, Texas. He attended school in Maverick and Mazeland before his parents bought a farm in Wingate, Texas. After completing the 8th grade in Wingate, he then graduated from Winters High School in 1955. While attending Winters High School, he worked at Pat Patterson's Humble Service Station in Winters, a job that would be a stepping stone to his business career.
Robert married Judith Ann Johnson in Villa Acuna, Mexico on May 15, 1955.
Robert was a business man all of his life. In 1956 he was approached by Wayne Irby to open his own Sinclair Service Station on the north end of Winters. In 1966 he opened the Angelo Plaza Skelly Truck Stop in San Angelo, Texas, and remained the owner/operator until 1986. At that time he sold the truck stop to concentrate on his Pic-N-Pac convenience stores in San Angelo, Ballinger, and Menard. Later he added the Party Barn in San Angelo to his businesses.
Robert and Judy enjoyed traveling. Their favorite trips included surf fishing on South Padre Island, many visits to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and numerous cruises.
Robert is survived by Judy, his wife of 62 years, and his children: daughter Lisa Jones and husband Gary of Midland, daughter Laurie Robinson of San Angelo, son Doug Robinson and wife Kim of San Angelo. He is also survived by four grandchildren and three great grandchildren: Jessica Schiller and husband Scott of Austin, their children Seathan and Hannah, Megan Lancaster and daughter Katrina of Austin, Kanton and Kyler Robinson of San Angelo.
He is also survived by his brother, Gayland Robinson and wife Charlotte of Brownwood and family.
Visitation will be held at Johnson's Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 3rd at 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm. Services honoring Robert will be Wednesday, January 4th at 2:00 pm in the chapel at Johnson's Funeral Home.
