Charles Rufus Crawford, Jr., age 88, of San Angelo, Texas, died peacefully Saturday, October 8, 2016, at home surrounded by loved ones. He was born August 26, 1928, in Millican, Texas to Charles and Leila Maud Crawford. He grew up in Brazos County with his younger sister Sally Jo, spending much time in the care of his aunt and uncle Lee and Irene Norwood and surrounded by many cousins. Charles graduated from Texas A & M University with a degree in Architecture and Design. While at A&M, he married Betty Allbright and after graduation, moved to San Angelo to begin a family and establish his interior design and architecture business which endured to his death. The drafting table at his home had a sketch of a client’s new home on it this week! His clients became his friends and those relationships lasted over 60 years.
Charles was a member of the American Society of Interior Designers and was a past board member of SAPAC and the San Angelo Symphony, also serving as president of the symphony board.
Charles is survived by his two daughters and son-in-law, Cathryn Matson and Claudia and John Malitz, all of San Antonio, and by his partner, Earl S. Mulley. He was so proud of his five grandchildren: Caroline Matson Melendez (William) of New York, NY, Ryan Malitz (Lauren) of San Antonio, Lauren Matson Campbell (Scott) of Santa Barbara, CA, Stephanie Malitz Mitchell (Jimmy) of Houston, TX and Natalie Malitz Brown (Tim) of San Antonio. The loves of his life were his 8 great grandchildren: Olivia, Pax, Grace, Emery, Elise, Hudson, James and Carter and his Labradoodle, Coco. Charles’ circle of friends was large and strong. The love he shared with so many enriched his life dramatically.
