Marie Esther Garlock 95, went to be with the Lord on August 24, 2016 in San Angelo, TX.
Marie Herbig was born to William and Veronica Roth Herbig in St. Louis, Missouri on June 22, 1921. She was self-educated and a highly successful business woman, she dropped out of high school to help support her family during the depression and met her husband, Paul J. Garlock (deceased) of 63 years while working at the small arms plant in St. Louis, MO, before Paul joined the Navy during WW II. They were married in 1945 and she followed him to Corpus Christi, TX and then back to Missouri after the war. They settled in Gerald, MO and realizing a need, she opened P & M Variety Store inside the Gerald Hotel & Bar owned by Paul and his family. She turned it into a cornerstone of the community for 50 years. She was a prominent member of the Chamber of Commerce, St. Gerald’s Catholic Church and the Gerald community. She was a founding member and helped establish the Gerald Volunteer Ambulance service which she also volunteered for years. She was on the committee that designed and built the St. Gerald’s Church. She taught herself how to sew and then became a 4-H leader, teaching others to sew. Many of her students competed and won at county and state competitions. Marie was instrumental in helping to attract and develop the Lost Valley Recreation Resort near Gerald. Marie was a loved Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother.
Mrs. Garlock is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters Anna, Angus, and Vera, one brother Arthur.
Marie is survived by two Daughters Abigail Landolt and husband Jack of San Angelo, TX, Peggy Tetercyz of Chicago, IL., Two Sons Greg Garlock of Union, MO., Paul Joseph Garlock Jr. and wife Jeannie of St. Louis, MO., seven Grandchildren John Landolt III and wife Barbara of Biloxi, MS, Karen Landolt and wife Lee Ann of Austin, TX., Kevin Landolt and wife Katy of NC., John Tetercyz of Chicago, IL., Sue Anna Garlock of St. Louis, MO., Christopher Garlock of Kansas City, MO., and Matthew Garlock of Kansas City, MO., seven Great Grandchildren Katelyn, William, and Dylan Landolt, Isabella and Keagan Garlock..
A memorial service will be held at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Monday, August 29, 2016 at 10:00 AM. An inurnment with her husband will be at a later date in Port Hudson, MO.
